do your bubs do these?

just an observation about the quirky funny things babies do. if you have any ideas on why our babies do this... please enlighten me. if not, no biggie. just curious

my 5mo old baby girl

-holds her hands in front of her, opens & closes them and stares at them for long periods

-opens & closes her hands while she's nursing. sometimes, she does this on top of my breast so it's like pinching

-goes hahaha/ hehehe when she wants to nurse

-smiles or laughs while she's pooping

-lies down with her feet up

-puts her feet into her mouth

My first born auctually did that too!! She was my first so I couldn't figure out why. So I asked the doctor. He told me that she had just discovered her hands and feet and her eyes were beginning to adjust better. Then the pooping thing, he just laughed and told me "she thinks it's funny when you have to change her!!" I'm glad she did. This laughing also gave me a hint that she pooped so I would call her daddy into the room or bring her to him and say, "your turn!!" (sadly he figured this out when the messy ones started!!)

So cute, aren't they? Why do they do those things? She is learning, about her hand and how it works. She is squeezing your boob to control milk flow. She is communicating that she is hungry. Pooping feels good (why hubby stays in bathroom an hour and then brags.) She is becoming a master yogi. Feet are interesting and now she notices them and everything interesting goes in mouth.

When my baby started doing the hand open/close thing I would say "open" and then "shut" as he did it, to teach him. The pinch-boob thing is not fun, and I would say OW loudly and pull him off. He got it. He learned not to pull my hair that way, too. Be sure and take a pic of the foot-in-mouth thing.

my son is 6 mths. He:

    - doesn't do the hand open/close thing, as they are usually wrapped around his feet as he tries to get them both in his mouth at once! Because: he can!

    - *does* do the boob pinching & the one time I said "ow" (not even loudly) he stopped feeding, looked up at me & burst into tears! lol. Because: I don't know, but it hurts lol.

    - grunts & goes red when he is pooping but laughs after he has passed wind lol (and, slightly embarrassed to admit this, but *I* passed wind today & he laughed!!) Because: I'm not sure but it's as if he genuinely thinks it's funny! I blame his Daddy :D

well my nurse told me its at that age where they discover there hands and look at it like its not a part of them. my son had done the same about those months but my nurse had told me he would start doing it even before he had. they also do like little sit ups where they try to get up. all cute baby things take plenty of videos and photos

Babies are exploring themsleves at that age. They find out that they can do things with there hands or they see that that thing at the end of there leg is attached to them. Its normal.
