Did Robin Hood the movie come out before the book?
My friend and I want to read Robin Hood for a book project and I was just wondering which came first, the book or the movie?

No, the book came first, or rather, the books. The stories originated from several sources such as "A Lytell Geste of Robyn Hode", which was a collection of ballads, and two plays, "The Downfall of Robert Earl of Huntingdon" and "The Death of Robert Earl of Huntingdon", by Anthony Munday, a contemporary of Shakespeare. These constitute nearly all the original Robin Hood literature and were created well before the silver screen.
Hope that helps!

For sure the book came first. There have been many books about Robin Hood, most of them were written before movies were invented.

There's no definitive book or movie for Robin Hood. He shows up in Ivanhoe and DK Publishing's Classics, and there are at least a dozen movies and miniseries about him, Maid Marion, and the rest of the gang (I mean heck, think about Men in Tights! Or the Disney version with forest critters!).
But the stories were written down long before they were filmed.

The book.
The earliest movie I can think of is the version with Errol Flynn as Robin Hood.
But Robin Hood has been a legend in England since the 12th century.

Robin Hood has appeared in literature since late medieval times - probably at least 650 years before any of the films.
