wow i love how everybody thinks that the airforce has crazy high intelligence standards LILLIAN because they only need a 36 on the asvab to get in and the airforce will sometimes take people with as low of a score as a 21 ... the only thing is with the airforce you have to jump through more hoops ( they accept less ged's) so as far as being the hardest they are just because you ahve to jump through hoops and do back bends to serve your country.. just to let you know i could have had any branch i wanted but chose the Army
and you AFWIFE you sure are running your mouth a lot considering you are just a spouse.. why dont you tell your chairforce husband to put on my boots for a day and he wont be able to walk on his own two feet cause he couldnt handle it.

Actually, some of these answers are really outdated. When I joined the Air Force back in 1986, you had to have the highest ASVAB scores to qualify and not having a High School Diploma was unheard of. Now, I have a son who's looking to join the Coast Guard and since they are the smallest of all "Armed" Forces, they can really pick and choose amongst potential enlistees. They look at ASVAB scores, High School transcripts, extracurricular participation in High School, job history and volunteerism. However, the truth is that it's getting harder and harder to qualify for any branch of the service. Force reduction and technology has really upped the anti on qualifications and educational background. I've read that by 2020 the Air Force and Navy (and possibly the Coast Guard) are going to REQUIRE an Associate's Degree or 90 Quarter hours of college (60 Semester hours) before they will even talk to a potential enlistee. Grandpa's "enlist or go to jail" days are done.

Not the Army. They are waiving in felons and low ASVAB scores. You really shouldn't look at what branch is the hardest to get into, but rather what job you'd want to do in the military and how difficult it is to get that job. Similar jobs in the different services could be easier to get - for example, an applicant wanting to be a linguist in the Air Force doesn't need as a high a score on the DLAB as they would if they wanted to be a linguist in the Navy.

Right now, the service with the highest required ASVAB scores is the Coast Guard - which is presently 45. On top of this, we are so full that we've suspended active recruiting for all Active Duty folks until October 1st... which means that you CAN'T enlist for Active Duty right now. If you can't get in - then it's GOT go be the hardest!! The last thing to consider is that even when we ARE enlisting folks, we have enough people looking to enlist that lots of our offices don't even have to process waivers for folks that have minor problems (minor criminal background, minor medical issues, etc). Many/most of our recruiting offices meet their YEARLY recruiting goals within four to six months. So, to answer your question directly - it's the Coast Guard.

You have to qualify for all but most are pretty easy to get into. Even the Marines just dont do weed and don't tell anyone if your gay they dont ask and you dont have to tell.
But the hardest one would be the SEALs not every average joe can just sign up there is specific qualifications. And the same with the Air force if you want to fly a F22 raptor you need perfect vision and close to being a genius
But after you are accepted the challenge of the specific service varies. The Marines the Rangers, Delta Force, Marine Sniper School, SEALs, Green Berets are all the hardest to be in. You have to admit though the U.S. has a lot of elites to challenge people when it comes to the Military.
butterknife doesn't know anything about the Military and he obviously didn't read a sentence of my answer.

Physically it's the Marines, intelligently it's the Air Force or Navy.

Lol at all the Air Force people saying its the hardest. Their BCT is probably the easiest thing I've ever seen I thought i recognized that as my 7th grade gym class. I would like to see half the kids that go through AF BCT to make it through the Marines or the Army BCT.
That pretty much answers your question sure the AF might make it harder to get in as far as the ASVAB goes but half those kids I've seen in the AF don't look like they could make it in any other branch.

The Air Force is the most selective and hardest to get into. The first three answers are wrong.
Edit: The question was asked what branch is the hardest to get into, not what branch is the hardest!

currently, the coast guard is actually OVER their yearly recruitment requirement, and it's been like that for years. i had to have FIVE letters of reccomendation, and TWO of those were from officers, on a General (army) and an Admiral (Navy).
