What happened?

In science today, we mixed together Copper Sulphate, Zinc and Ammonium Nitrate. A large amount of yellowish gas was produced, which smelled a little like chlorine. The people close to it had minor sore throats for about an hour afterwards. What the hell did we make?

(We crammed it into a fume cupboard straight afterwards. No-one was seriously damaged)

you probably released ammonium gas, not something you want to inhale

Oh geez, you guys should be more careful! It was probably Ammonium Sulfate gas or Nitrate gas. That stuff can kill you.
