Have you considered Leopard geckos, Crested geckos, Viper geckos, Gargoyle geckos, or African Fat-tailed geckos? All of them are small, don't need huge terrariums, easy to care for, interesting looking, and generally docile.
If you are looking primarily for a 'display' pet; I would suggest the Gargoyle or Crested gecko. If you want a pet that is more handleable; go for the Leopard, African fat-tailed, or Viper. In my experience while Gargoyles and Cresteds can definitely be handled; they tend to be a tad more flighty and nervous.
Here are care sheets for all of the aforementioned species:

Good luck!

Leopard geckos usually have the best personlity and like being handled the most but if you want a really nice looking gecko i would go for a crested gecko. It depends on how much you like to play with the gecko.

leopard geckos are great pets awesome but if you want something that is a little cheaper a couple of house geckos or a marbled gecko or even a golden gecko but if you want something that is calm and you can hold i would defiantly go with the leopard gecko there is a lot of variation such as albino, chines, emerald, and lucistic also the normal leopard gecko is really cool good luck

i have 3 leaopard geckos and 2 Crested geckos, so it all depends on what time of atmosphere you like.
Leopard geckos you SEE more often, with Crested they are under the moss all day.
Cresteds are easier to hold, they have sticky pads for toes so they tickle and crawl all over you all day. Leos have toe nails so not quite as fun for crawlingon you (ouch!)
I feed all my geckos crickets dusted with Calcium powder, so their maintenance isnt very high.
Leo's cages are easier to clean, mine seem to poop all in the corner so its easy to clean, where as my crested loves climbing the glass and watching his poop run down the wall
(What a guy!)

I'd say leopard gecko. They are easy to care for and don't require that much care. They are very friendly and love to be held.
