Yes. Three large dogs and a gun!

SECOND EDIT: I live in Agua Dulce, CA on 22+ acres in Los Angeles County. I absolutely have three large dogs...ok, they're Golden Retrievers but they have a big bark! The burglar doesn't know they're Goldens! ;-) And I do indeed own a gun and the LA County Sheriff is the one who told me to get one because there were a lot of really scary robberies going on here and it takes them 45 minutes to get here!

I also own a shotgun and I'm thinking of turning into Elmer Fudd and start hunting rabbits! I hate these stinking rabbits! I can't grow a durn thing. They even eat my baby trees!

Yes ma'am I do...welll not really an alarm but a deterent....ok, I suppose they would be an alarm for the crook....when he hears the first shot.

I don't have an alarm system but I have kept my car keys on my nightstand for years, especially when I was on my own for a while. It's a lot cheaper than paying for an alarm system. Using car keys to alert someone that a person is ill or has fallen or has fallen, etc. has proven to be life saving as well.

The issue is that dogs are poor generalizers - it's not that the dog is "sneaky, greedy" etc, but that they have no intrinsic sense of morality or "rightness" and so only think something is "bad" if it has bad consequences. If it has never had bad consequences except with a human in the room, then how on earth are they to know that the rules still apply with the human out of the room? You need to train in such a way that corrections and rewards occur when the dog does not think you are present - i.e. hiding around the corner. Read here https://tr.im/qadDG

I personally owned a Labrador Retriever (read: chow hound) that could be left 6" from a hot dog in a sit-stay for half an hour and not touch it - the word was "mine" and it meant that you don't touch that, even if I am not in the room, even if whatever, you DO NOT touch that. You could leave a plate of food on the floor for hours and not only would she not touch it, she would also keep the other animals (dogs and cats) from touching it.

That is a very good idea. But to answer your question, no I don't have an alarm system. I have a dog that would lick an intruder to death. I don't lock my doors and in the summer they are wide open all night. I realize I am fortunate to live where that is possible.

I don't think that my neighbors would pay much attention to my car alarm going off. They would probably be annoyed more than anything. I have at least one large barking dog in my home.. along with other types of "protection". I hope it never comes to using that protection, but it is at hand.

I do keep my keys in hand when coming out of any business. If the alarm doesn't deter, the keys can cause some damage and so will the "protection" I keep with me.

I do not have an alarm system in the company housing.I own a nosy dog and a 357.Come on in,if you dare.I have heard of the alarm from your car.I passed it on to others at sorority.I also always lock my door on my truck as I get in.Oh,I live in Ca. now but am from Louisiana....Guns always get peoples attention.Fear.I have none...

GREAT idea, particularly for those living alone, in unstable neighborhoods, or without the means for a traditional alarm system.

I have the best alarm there is: Beethoven - my Pekinese/brussels griffon. He knows someone is near my car, window, or door long before I do. And he doesn't stop barking and growling until that person leaves - no battery required.

My alarm system is my boyfriend who's a gang banger.
