Your GPA should be decent (above a 3.0), but research experience is usually more important for getting a spot and the level of competition can vary greatly from school to school and even program to program. You may want to focus on a more biological field to even out your chemistry background for the type of research you seem to be interested in... Biochemical engineering, biochemistry, chemical biology, all of these things and similar sounding fields offer Masters and Doctorate programs, so start searching for something that fits you. If you feel you need more research experience first, you should consider working for a year as a research assistant or lab technician to get more research exposure, either in an academic lab or a biotech company.
