Norton Antivirus - renew or buy new cd?
The price to renew seems steep. Can I buy a new CD from a shop, e.g. from ebay, and still install on my PC OK? Ebay also offers digital renewal cheaper than the norton (symantec)website - does this work OK? I also see on the norton website that if I change the location to united states from the UK I get a much cheaper price quoted - can I buy this way instead? Will it still work OK? I apologise as there is more than 1 question here but I need to think about renewing/updating my security over the next few weeks before my renewal runs out, but at the same time I'd like to do so a bit less expensively !! Thanks in advance for all your help. Are other systems better and less expensive ?

For what it is worth, some things are still free, and work just as well for what you need.
I have been using free AVG for over 6 years straight now, and it updates all the time with new virus definitions. I have not had any serious problems with a virus that it didn't stop and either destroy or isolate in it's vault.
Norton has alot of extras, but AVG does all you really need.
Try it out. It's free. Oh, and it doesn't hurt to have a spyware killer too. Spybot is a good one. Just be careful here, though, as you can get one that already has malware included if you go with another name.
Some things on the internet should always be free.
Good Luck, and hope this helps.

Renewal is normally cheaper than buy new CD. You can renew anywhere around the world as long as have symantec representative over there & of course you pay the correct amount of money (currency isn't the matter). That will do

Get the renewal. The Norton updates are do-able. Norton might be picky about the contry's location. They do offer other software patches on the company's home page.

You should buy a new version each year. The algorithm in Norton 2008 is totally different from 2007.
Updating subscription only permit the update of antivirus definition but not the software algorithm

buy new cd, you get more features with newer software, better than renewing what you already have
