U.K. Sky Broadband & Telly?

Hi you lot out there lurking in the either I would appreciate some advice, warnings or comments on the advisability of signing up to Sky’s U.K. Broadband and Satellite package. A couple of my friends are signed up with Virgin version and are relatively happy with the service but alas I know no one who has tried Sky and I was wondering if this might be an omen. Thank you for your thoughts.

I have Sky TV, Broadband and Sky Talk (phone) and haven't had any problems. I am really happy with the service, there have been no hitches in connections and always manage to speak to someone if I have a question.

Don't be put off! Many people are very happy with Sky for both packages. Just make sure you check with Sky how far away you are from the exchange as this will affect what speeds you can get on your broadband. Also, I would recommend at least the £5 broadband rather than the free one as you are very restricted with your download allowance and speed. Once you've phoned them, and you know what you want join online via their site at:

They often offer better deals online. Like £50 off the Sky + box etc.

I have both Sky TV and Virginmedia plus broadband with Virgin. I was originally with Virgin so got a good deal as an existing customer with Virgin. Not only that but cable broadband is very reliable, and is also the fastest broadband in the UK due to it being on fibre optic cables and less affected by other users and the fact that it is not influenced my how far away you are from the exchange etc.

I am extremely happy with the Sky TV. Great choice and the Sky + box is great for watching things when you want. Gives you a lot more freedom. Also has Sky One and therefore 24, which alas Virgin does not.

If you want some more guidance about what to get visit this website:

    Hope that helps!

I`ve got this package, for a year. The sat tele is OK, if lacking a little in investment in new programs. The picture quality is very good and doesn`t crash/distort in inclement weather. The broadband is usually excellent but tends to go slow or even disappear altogether sometimes in late evenings when everybody is trying to use it at the same time, but this may be a result of their recent sales drive and be resolved by more investment in time, I suspect. The E-mail service tends to be a bit tedious to get at with log ons/offs etc, and no mail notifier that I can find.

There are also 3 prices; £60 up front then 2 gig rent free,£30 then £5 pcm for 8 gig, free then £ 10 pcm for 16 gigs. Mine runs at about 7 gigs 2Km from the exchange, and anything more is a waste of money probably. Connection took about a week, and McAfee security (good) and Internet Explorer 7 came with it for free. Set up from disc was easy enough. There is also the option of using the router as a wireless one if your computor is enabled, or you can buy an adaptor to plug into a USB port for about £28. This saves 1 cable and means that you can site the router remotely from the computor, or the computor can be in a different room to the `phone socket, if thats handier.

The backup service has proved OK when this novice has required it.

Nearby relatives have Virgin which they are happy with, but there is no cable coming past my house, so I extended the Sky package.

It`s probably as good as others, you pays your money and takes your choice!

    Hi,

I would not decide on broadband based on individual's opinion. Everyone will have different experience and it may not be the best for you. Both Sky & Virgin are one of the better providers, you would need to tell us more what do you expect from broadband to get the best advice. If you are after general feedback then look here - http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/compare_bro... - thousands of users have rated their broadband connection - based on satisfaction score Virgin comes higher than Sky.

I have a Sky + box and a digibox for TV and both are good though the reception in bad weather can be a bit iffy. Don't have broadband as a few friends are with them and say its crap.

I have broadband with BT who are even more crap so cant wait to change.

I get the 'Which' magazine and they recommend Plus.net, Newnet.co.uk and Waitrose as the best broadband providers.

I have had SKY TV for about 10 years with absolutely no problem I have SKY plus - its brilliant!

I got Sky broadband in October 2007 - £5 per month and its brilliant, had no problems and Sky Talk - no problems but we probably dont use it enough to justify the £5 per month.

you're able to desire to touch Sky and ask in the event that they have any option Routers that they could deliver you. we are with AOL Broadband, they took an prolonged time to deliver the instantaneous Router.... it fairly is a Netgear crappy one - it does decrease out and get sluggish at cases and each so frequently I could desire to unplug it, then plug it back in. Ahh properly. yet attempt a distinctive Router is what i'm suggesting. additionally: verify you placed it up properly. Use WPA and not WEP for the relationship.

I'm on sky, I wouldn't go with them, I think they are a waste of money, certainly do Virgin or other packages. I going to change mine when the contracts up.

The best is Tiscali if available in your area.

Sky is good for TV, but I have heard the broadband is not very good.

I am with BT for broadband and it is excellent.

Whatever you do, don't use Orange for broadband, they are rubbish.

The main problem with Sky is that you have 999 channels of garbage instead of just 4...
