Are people just giving Kobe the MVP just cuz he never won it B4?

I men Kobe is a phenomenal player yes. But I really don't understand why he is so high in the MVP disscussion

in my eyes the lakers are playing so well because of:

1. The Gasol trade

2. Bynum finally reaching his potential

3. the return of Fisher

without theses 3 things wouldn't they be the same team that they were the years B4?

I don't see how you can put him ahead of:

C.P.3,

Lebron,

EVEN T-MAC deserves it more than him

help me out here

Update:

I think CP3 deserves it

LeHype / TrustMeIWearSocks here are interesting facts about New Orleans:

    Did you know that:

Tyson wasn't playing wonderfully like that when he was in a Chicago uniform, not even a all-star nomination. Paul transformed the Baby Bull to the All-star he is now, giving him the passes near the rim where he can score almost effortlessly. Another one is David West, Did you know that before the arrival of Chris Paul West didn't average above 7 points rebounds even worse with 4 caroms a night? With Paul inserted in the line-up West averaged 17 points and 7 boards in an instant! 10 points difference? Peja Stojakovic although being a former All-Star seemed to lose the touch that made him a star player and was bounced off from Sac-town to Indiana before joining the Hornets and renewing the touch he had before, who else but a good ball distributor can find great shooters like Peja.

Kobe is okay but please don't underestimate the other MVP candidates altogether. Now if the choice is between Deron Williams and CP3 I would have told a different story hehehe.

P.S. New Orleans still leads the West despite not having competed the play-offs last season, and with everyone not even anticipating them to get this far.

    Hope this helps.

There seems to be a misconception going around (IMO) that Kobe has been overlooked in past MVP votings, so that's working in his favor in this year's MVP voting . ESPN does a great deal to fan the flames on that topic.

I really don't think Kobe has deserved an MVP before this season. Kobe was never the best player on the Lakers when they won 3 championships with Shaq, so how could he be the MVP of the league then? After Shaq left, Kobe was definitely their best player, but the Lakers' records were never great (they were always in the bottom of the playoff picture if they were in it at all) and they couldn't get out of the first round of the playoffs either...

I think Kobe has a great chance to win the MVP this year, but I wouldn't be that surprised to see KG or CP3 win it either (since their teams are really good too) and it also wouldn't really surprise me if LeBron won it because his overall stats are better than anyone else's, including Kobe's, KGs, or CP3s.

    1. Kobe led the Lakers to #1 in the West BEFORE the Gasol trade. The Lakers were considered a title contender before Gasol donned a Lakers jersey and played those meager 19 games.

    2. Bynum may be the low-post presence the Lakers need to take it to the next level but Kobe remains the anchor of the team. Kobe actually makes Bynum a better player by drawing the attention of the defense. Take away Kobe, the Lakers are a lottery team. Think of Bynum as the equivalent of Tyson Chandler on the Hornets--a solid contributor but not the primary reason the Hornets are doing so well this season.

    3. If you told Fisher that he was the reason the Lakers became a title contender this season, he would laugh in your face. He may have brought a lot of invaluable veteran experience and stability, but let's face it, the guy would not be a starter on other teams.

I could also diminish CP3's accomplishments with the same reasoning you used on Kobe. The Hornets are playing so well because of:

    1. West reaching his potential and putting up career highs.

    2. Chandler meshing well with CP3, being a monster on the boards, and putting up career highs.

    2. Peja being healthy the entire season and shooting the lights out in some games.

I'll go as far as to say CP3 has a better supporting cast than Kobe. Peja is a three-time all-star, West a one-time. The Lakers do not have any all-stars apart from one-time all-star Gasol who only played 19 games w/ the Lakers.

People like to argue that Lebron deserves the MVP over Kobe this year because he has a worse supporting cast but they forget Kobe led a FAR inferior roster (ie. Kwame Brown, Smush Parker) to the playoffs in the competitive West for the past two seasons. The Cav's current 41-33 would be #10 in the West. Giving Lebron the MVP this season would be a travesty.

There is definitely a sense of regret between sports writers for never giving Kobe an MVP before. In 2006, Nash won it even though Kobe was the player who most people will remember since he scored 81 pts in a game. Then last year they gave it to Nowitzki. I didn't even remember Dirk was the MVP until TNT reminded me. So this year, I think everybody decided "It's Kobe's time no matter what". There are no clear definitions of what an MVP is, so it leaves the process open to debate. I can definitely see Kobe beating Lebron for MVP, since the East is such a joke, except for Detroit and Boston, but it is hard to argue with somebody who'd pick CP3 or T-Mac, if they end up with a better record than the Lakers.

There's still some time left; and right now I think Chris Paul is almost dead even with Kobe in term of MVP choice. If lakers can win most of the last remain game and kobe not get suspend for 1 more technical foul, I think kobe should be MVP; but if Hornet is number 1 seeds, that will benefit Chris Paul as well. Don't forgot about last year, when Dirk won the season MVP due to #1 seed in the NBA, but the team failed to advance first round. Chris Paul is in smilar situaion; but he also takes most credit for the team being improve so much, last year they not even in the playoff !

I couldn't agree with you more. How do you give Kobe the MVP when he has clearly shown that without NUMEROUS supporters he is nothing but a scoring machine?

He has proved this year after year, with Shaq he wasn't even the best player on his own team, and won only because Shaq was the most dominant low post presence in his prime.

Without Shaq, he was an absolute nothing until Bynum came into his own and they traded for Gasol. Seriously, what did he do after Shaq until Pre Bynum/Gasol? He scored a lot of points and had his *** handed to him by Phoenix twice (without Amare in one of the series).

No person should get the MVP based on the fact that they have never won it before. If that was the case maybe the league should just start handing championships to players who have never won it before.

Also, can someone please hand "LeHYPE" a used kobe condom so he can stop bitching like his idol Kobe "I ***** more in games than i get assists or boards please give me the MVP cause I have never won it before" Braynt. Thanks!

That's exactly why they're going to give it to him. It's ahame that the NBA & Media is going to give an award away off of pitty. For some reason Kobe gets everything without deserving it. Kobe is just a spoiled brat and I can't stand him for it. Kobe is all hype and they're going to give him that award just cause. I don't know how he deserves it when his team is 3rd in the West & 5th in the NBA, he lead the league in Technical Fouls (15) & Ejections (2), his last ejection was in a crucial moment causing his team to lose, for now on if he gets another Technical Fouls he'll be suspended, and his individual stats aren't the best.

    CP3 For MVP!

KOBE DOESN'T DESERVE NOTHING!! ALL HE DOES IS SCORE HE DOESN'T CARRY HIS TEAM THEY WAY A SUPERSTAR SHOULD HE IS VERY SELFISH AND THINKS ONLY OF HIMSELF HE IS SUCH A BALL HOG AND CREATE PLAYS FOR HIM SELFISH HE DOESN'T MAKE EVERYONE BETTER AROUND HIM!!

CP3 IS TOO YOUNG FOR MVP I'LL GIVE HIM NEXT YEAR OR THE YEAR AFTER THAT HE IS ONE REMARKABLE AND TALENTED PLAYER I CANT ARGUE WITH THAT!!

LEBRON DESERVES IT BECAUSE HE LEADSH IS TEAM THE RIGHT WAY, MAKES EVERYONE BETTER AND HAS REALLY BEEN PLAYING PG RATHER THAN SF TO ME!!

T-MAC DESERVES IT TO HE LEAD HIS TEAM TO A 22 GAME WINNING STREAK MANLY BECAUSE HE HAS LEARNED TO GROW UP IN THE GAME OF BASKETBALL ITS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT SCORING BUT HELPING OTHER PLAYERS ON YOUR TEAM TO BE BETTER OR BECOME BETTER BUT HE DOES KNOCK DOWN SHOUTS WHEN NEEDED AND WHEN THE GAMEI S ON THE LINE!!!

    Source(s): CP3 OR T-MAC GETS MY VOTE

Hey who said kobe is even getting MVP? hehe kobe is good but he doesnt help his team much, i mean if you score 53 points and lose to one of the worst teams in the NBA, i think that shows something about your leadership. Though i think Lebron James is the best player in the NBA, Chris paul deserves MVP because his team has a good record and he has amazing stats and they win games because of his leadership.
