I've done this before...a long time ago.

I believe the answer is 10,990 legs (without including the bus driver!)

I've head this before. I've always come up with the same answer, but apparently it's wrong, and I don't know why. But here's how I did it:

There are 7 girls on the bus, each with 7 backpacks. That makes 7*7=49 backpacks.

In each backpack, there are 7 big cats, so that makes 7*49=343 big cats.

For each big cat, there are 7 little cats. So there are 343*7=2401 little cats.

So there are 7 girls with 2 legs each, 343 big cats with 4 legs each, and 2401 little cats with 4 legs each. So the total number of legs is:

    (7*2)+(343*4)+(2401*4)=10990.

Actually, that's a different answer than I got last time...must have done something differently...

    Try the number 10990.

    -IMP ;) :)

    The answer is 10992.

This is because 7*2=14 which is the girls legs.

7*7*7*4 is the big cats legs = 1372.

Then 7*7*7*7*4=9604 which is the little cats legs.

But here is the trick; they are on a bus so therefore the driver must have 2 legs also so thats another 2.

    Then 14+1372+9604+2=10992.

    Hope this helps!

    Well, lets see

    7 girls on a bus = 14 legs

    7 backpacks for each girl =49 backpacks= 0 legs

    7 big cats/backpack = 343 big cats = 1372 legs

    7 little cats/big cat = 2401 little cats = 9604 legs

add them up = 10990 legs

If you assume that there is a driver on the bus, and the driver is not one of the seven girls, and the driver does not have backpacks or cats, add 2 legs

    10,992 legs

    I got 406 legs.

    14 legs for the girls

cats have 4 legs and theres 7 for each backpack. So its 7*4=28 then take 28*7 for the big cats. do the same thing for the kittens then add both answers and the 14 for the girls which equals 406.

    7 Girls x 2 legs each = 14 legs

    7 girls x 7 backpacks = 49 backpacks total

    49 backpacks x 7 big cats = 343 big cats

    343 big cats x 4 legs each = 1372 legs

    343 big cats x 7 little cats = 2401 little cats

    2401 little cats x 4 legs each = 9604 legs

    Add the legs together:

    14 + 1372 + 9604

    10,990 legs.

    1 girl = 7 Backpack = 49 Big cats = 343 small cats

    1 girl = 2 legs

    1 big cat = 4 legs, so 49 big cats = 196

    1 small cat = 4 legs, so 343 s cats = 1372

    196+1372 = 1568

    1570 x 7 ( girls) = 10976+14 (7 girls legs) = 10990

    7 girls have 14 legs

there are 343 big cats so 1372 legs (7 girls have 7 bags each so 49 each has 7 cats so 343)

and 2401 small cats so 9604 legs ( 343 big cats each has 7 small cats so 343x7=2401)

thats a total of 10990 legs

and the driver has two legs so 10992

  • 1 decade ago

different ways to think about this but...7 girls would have 14 legs... then there are 49 backpacks and no more legs then there are 343 big cats with an additional 1372 legs.....and there are 2401 small cats with an additional 9604 legs. So if you add 9604+1372+14 is total legs......10990

    the answer is 70 because 7 girls x 2 legs = 14

    7 cats x 4 legs = 28

    7 more cats x 4 legs = 28 and 28+28=56+14=70

    7 girls = 14 legs

    No cats = 7(girls) * 7(sacks) * 7(big cats) * 7(little cats)

    No cats legs =7^4 * 4 = 9604

    Total legs = 9604 + 14 = 9618
