How do you write a book query?
I'm a published article author, and I'm nearly finished with a short non-fiction book. Does anyone have any good advice on writing a query letter or finding representation? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
@ Meshugga:
I'm planning on using my computer, but thanks for the tip.

First and foremost if you are ready to start querying agents you absolutely need to purchase a copy of Writer's Market 2008: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1582974977/ref=wl... It lists agents and publishers across the country and contains /very/ helpful information on how to write query letters, book proposals and more. This book is a must for aspiring authors.
Until you purchase Writer's Market 2008 you can review the following links for helpful information on how to write query letters and book proposals:

I'm really more versed with the processes for submitting fiction, which are largely different from non-fiction. However, I do believe they have information on both over at agentquery.com.
Actually, if I remember correctly, it's usually more like pitching an article when you're approaching a publisher about a non-fiction book. Non-fiction is where a book proposal comes into play. Queries are generally more for fiction. The publishing and agent forums over at writers.net are also a good place to ask. There are quite a few non-fiction authors over there who are generally very helpful.

1 paragraph summary of your book. Short sweet, and to the point. Needs your name, your phone number, your agent if you ahev one, and contact information for them. Also include a SASE.
