Rage Against the Machine guitar style.?

Ok im restarting on my guitar after about two years of not playing at all, so im pretty much a novice. i like play RATM style, but i have a few questions. When it says to "killswitch" notes what goes it mean (see example 1). I know how to killswitch on stuff like the solo on Bull on Parade, but i dont see the connection with that and with doing it in the sense of example #1. Question 2: is vibrato the same thing as a whammy bar and is tremolo bar the same thing as those two??

Example 1:

Riff #1 (Intro and verses) --Using killswitch and whammy--

----------------------------------------------

--12------------12-----------12-----------12--

----------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------

Example two:

Solo part 1 --killswitch--

-----------------------------------------

--12-0000-12-0000-12-0000-12-0000--------

Update:

killswitching the notes in a continous play seems impossible, how do you strum, play the note and toggle the killswitch at the same time??

Update 2:

the examples are excerts from "calm like a bomb" , not "Bulls on parade" and i want to know the killswitch technique when you play notes (intro and solo on "Calm like a bomb") instead of rubing the strings (like the bulls on parade solo)

yea tremolo and whammy bar is the same thing. not too sure about vibrato though.

and the intro to bulls on parade doesn't need a killswitch, just the solo. but if you want to know how to kill switch it properly, i guess all i can say is listen to the song to get the rhythm right.

edit: i don't think theres any kill switching in the intro for calm like a bomb.

Tremolo Means whammy bar, sometimes the bar is PULLED up to get a higher sound, just so you know, and a killswitch is the toggle that switches pickups. If you turn the pick up you dont use (EX: for me, i use the bridge) all the way down, and flip the switch repeatevly, you get an on and off sound. try tat with rubbing your hand arcoss the strings and you gett that signiture scratching sound. *Inhales* Ah, good stuff. Good luck, Young Tom Morello. Keep on Rocking! \m/
