Bible vs. Gay?

The bible says if a man are to lay with a man, the way a man would lay with a wome" then he has sinned, or something along those lines. since the bible only mentions gay sex as a sin, is loving another of the same sex a sin? the bible doesn't say, so who are you to say it's wrong. even though they may be tempted in there relationship, if they never have sex is it a sin and why?

The verse you're referring to as Leviticus 18:22, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." (King James Version)

Leviticus is the part of the Bible that happens right after the Israelites have exited from their slavery in Egypt. Basically, God is giving them the new laws that they're to abide by in their new, free life upon their return to the land of Ca'naan, the modern day Israel.

It is perhaps worthwhile to note at this point that Egyptian history does not have any record of the mass-exodus of Israelite slaves. It is also perhaps worthwhile to note that, a few verses earlier, touching the skin of a dead pig (American football, anyone?) is also referred to with exactly the same word, "abomination." (Leviticus 11:6)

But perhaps the most noteworthy thing to point out would be that, in the Old Testament worldview (still popular today with extremely orthodox Jews), women are not considered to have souls and are essentially seen as a form of cattle. As such, the notion of gay sex being an "abomination" is really more about the idea that the "receiver" is being disgraced during the experience because he's being treated in a manner more appropriate for a lowly woman.

It's been a while since I've really met anyone who thinks about women like that. In fact, the whole view comes across as kindda creepy to me. Yet somehow, this verse continues to be quoted regularly by Christian leaders. It's a selective interpretation of the book of Leviticus... And you shouldn't take it seriously.

There is a long list of abominations in Leviticus 18. One of them is that a man should not lie down with his neighbor's wife. In many other places in the bible, adultery and fornication are strictly acts that defile both participants and create a separation from God.

Most of them are cultural, and specifically about recreating a nation. Homosexuality, incest, adultery and fornication are bad for stabilizing a new nation. They lead to no babies, deformed babies or unclear lineages.

Since we have allowed civilization to knock out the problems that faced the Israelites thousands of years ago, those rules are only important to frightened people who are unaware of themselves.

    Be true to yourself.

Also, there is not one word attributed to Jesus about homosexuality. But there are many about adultery, which is clearly not grounds for divorce, according Jesus' words in the New Testament. Does that mean all the divorced people are living in sin?

The bible contradicts itself several times so I dont take it as a reliable source. God nor jesus himself certainly didnt dictate its contents so I beleive god doesnt care about all of that as long as you love someone & are a good person.

Some churches try and tell gay members to be gay if they have to , but never have sex , and the church will sorta overlook it . like a dont come - we wont treat you like a bum policy .

The bible clearly condemns homosexuality and homosexual acts.

Your lousy use of semantics doesn't change that.
