Cat was playing killing mouse. But she wont kill it.?

My cat keeps half playing half fighting with this mouse. When she left it, I put it in a container.

The mouse's back legs dont seem to work and it seems pretty freaked.

I know my Cat wouldn't kill it, without dragging the process out for a day or two.

Should I put it out of its misery? or should i do somthing else. What is the best way to put down a mouse?

Update:

but whats the best way to put it down?

Update 2:

Thanks for your help. Its gone now

If its going to die, nature will intend it. Id let it go as far away from your home as possible Your cat might not have the "kill" instict (which is a great thing) so she may take a long time to kill it, which is unfair to the mouse. Do you think you could kill it? Humanely? This sounds babaric, but the quickest painfree way of killing it, is to drop something really heavy on it. It wont even realise. But if it hung around to be caught, i tend to think its dying anyway. Maybe let nature take its course. Release it somewhere to die.

Some cats do, some cats don't. You don't say how old he is - if he isn't mature yet he may not be physically strong enough - as you know rats can be very vicious. He's obviously interested - maybe he will get braver. A month isn't very long, especially if he hasn't seen any rats before.Cats learn hunting skills from their mothers, so maybe he only learned birds? But there's no way I've ever heard of that can teach a cat to hunt one thing and not another. And in the countryside there are always rats around - just make sure there are no foodstuffs outside to tempt them. As for feeding, cats naturally like to eat little and often, so one big meal a day might not be a good plan.

If you must feel pity and kill the mouse, just step on it's head hard enuf to crush the skull. Otherwise let the cat have it's fun. A mouse damaged as you describe is dead in any case. Cats are predators, but they don't always kill swiftly and most well fed cats will not eat their kills. I praise my cat for each kill she makes. She's a glutton and eats most of hers but she usually leaves me a "Trophy" for me to find.

I know it sounds disgusting but the best way to put it down painlessly is to cut the head off.In a single chop with an extremely sharp knife.Death is instant. I used to own a cat that would bite lizzards in half from the waist down.I used to have to kill them like that for they would be still alive and trying to crawl away.

This is normal. My cats do the same thing. They just LOVE to play with their pray until it does eventually die. They know they can re-catch it if it tries to squirm away, thus this is quite fun for them. :) I was morbidly entertained when my cat caught its first mouse. He kept throwing it up in the air and catching it.

It really is up to you. Take it outside and release it (in knowing the mouse might or might not survive long) or simply put it out of its misery if you can handle it...

The best way to kill it would be to drown it in ice cold water. It stuns the animal and apparently its not painful at all (some say it actually feels good because of a hormone that's released while you're body is in panic mode).

cats often play with mice and keep them half alive. it must be some kind of control thing. she used to live in the boonies and that cat would drag one up about every 2 days or so....but eventually, she would kill it when it didnt squirm or entertain anymore

your cat is a vegetarian....and just leave the rat alone..let it start a colony and then you can end up like the old lady on Ratatouillie!!
