Can you eventually go blind from wearing prescription glasses? anybody know?
Ok, let me make the question more clear, I currently have a prescription of -3.50 on both eyes, but every couple years it gets worse. So I wonder you can eventually go blind??? Does anybody know? also if you have a prescription of -8.00 and above, how bad is your sight?? can you explain, is it a huge blur?? does it hurt??

I suppose that you could eventually go blind but I don't think that it would be related to wearing glasses.
I don't know how bad a -8.00 prescription is, but I have a -6.50 and it's pretty bad - I can't read my wrist watch (without glasses) until it's within 8 inches of my face.
No, it's not all one big blur. I can make out objects but the edges are all blurry and any small details are lost. This is about what my hand looks like when my arm is stretched out about half way: http://photos.manic.nu/albums/userpics/10001/2005-...
It doesn't hurt, but at the same time I can feel my eyes strain when I get new glasses or if I take my glasses off for anything longer than 10-15 minutes.
I hope this helps.

Over a period of time your vision is getting worse it is not the glass just your eyes. Glasses are there to help you see better they are not there to correct the problem. That is why you have to get a new prescription each time your old one does not do it for you anymore. You can consider having surgery done if you want to fix the problem about your eyesight, but i dont really know the side effects of that either. Like the other person have said it is kind of uncomfortable in the beginning if you get a new glasses because it takes time for your eyes to adjust to the new one, but once you are used to it , you should be fine.

lol, you don't go blind by having a high prescription other than you can't see without aids. -8.00 is pretty bad and you basically can't see anything but a few inches away. People who have bad sight don't necessarily have bad eyes or eyes that hurt. Its just the eyeball is too long so that light is not highting the retina properly to see good.
