Americas next top model - is a size 10 really plus size?
from tonights show they said Whitney was wearing a size 10...to me......she does not look very plus sized at all? It is shocking that a size 10 is plus size. Is it just me? It seems like if she lost even a little bit of weight she wouldn't be plus size anymore. I have seen that happen before on antm. Why can't they just pick a real full figured girl? And on this subject...do you think its fair they always have 1 plus model and the rest not? Don't you think they should just have two shows with one for plus size?

I thought that was crazy as well. The plus size section starts at sizes 12 or 14, not 10. I guess she's a little too big to be a "regular" model, but not big enough to be a true plus size model.
I think they did have a plus size model competion show on Oxygen or WE at one time. It lasted a couple of seasons I belive.

When ANTM first started? The sample size for model clothes was a size 6. So plus sized would be a 12 and up. Today? On those "lollipops?" The sample size is anywhere from -2, -1, 0, 1, or a size 2. A size 2 on a 6 foot tall model!!!!!! So if the SAMPLE SIZE is a 2? Then a plus sized model would be a size 8 and up. STUPID. On what planet is a size 8 considered fat????? Nice message to send 13 year olds Tyra. If you are anything but a size 2? YOU ARE TOO FAT!!!!!

Plus size models are booked through the top agencies (Ford, Wilhelmina, Click, Next, Elite, et al) from sizes 8 through 16/18. So, in the modeling world, YES, size 10 is plus sized, but that is only in comparison to puny size 0 or size 2 models. There's really nothing shocking about it unless you are insecure with your own body size and the term "plus size."
I'm a size 10 and I book plus size clients all the time, but no one in my "real life" thinks I'm big. It doesn't matter what people on the street say, though - if you're sizes 8 and up, to plus size clietns and agencies, you ARE plus sized. I for one don't mind the paychecks that come with it, so it does not bother me to be considered plus size.
ANTM is not exactly realisitc to begin with. Plus size girls rarely go to the same castings as straight size models, so the bigger girl is at a disadvantage from the get-go. Even if she's prettier than a thinner model (they are on the episodes that i've seen), she's just not going to be able to compete with the stick chicks.

In the modeling world, I think anything over a size 2 is considered a plus-size!! It's a shame and, I agree with you - in person, Whitney is probably no where near what one would think is "full-figured". She certainly represents a much larger portion of the population than the other girls, however, in that she's closer to the norm. I'm glad they had to go on a go-see with Shoshanna, who is known for designing clothes for women, not just models, and I'm glad she said she'd hire Whitney for her runway. The smart designers understand this. Seriously, if you cannot design clothes for a variety of sizes, then you have not business calling yourself a designer. My firend, who is a true plu-size, is often annoyed by the fact that the larger girls have to compete with the sticks. And, yes, two variations of the show would be cool but it would be nice to just see a larger girl win this show while competing with the standard model types.

To be honest to me She doesn't look plus size or fat ( She looks like a very healthy girl). But in the modeling industry their is a norm. You can't be too skinny nor toooooooooooooooooo fat.
Well I'm not trying to offend anybody, But what would a Plus Size Americas Next Top Model say to our youth.
In Cycle 8 They had two plus size contestants. Diana and Whitney.

I totally agree. When I looked at Whitney the first time I was surprised that they considered her plus size, she looks normal and healthy to me. I think that the fashion industry has a narrow field of vision when it comes to what they want. I just hope she doesn't let the judgment of the designers break her down like some of the past plus size models did.

I think Whitney is beautiful - she has a very sexy curvy body. A size 10 is considered plus size in the modeling world, where your typical runway model will be a size 2. But I think Whitney can go far because her face is so absolutely striking.

I actually do think it is fair for the shows purposes that they only have 1 plus sized model. They want a really good 1 to come along, so that they choose the right one. The fashion industry, much to my dismay, is not as accepting to plus sized models, so if someone won, they would have to be really really good.

Size 10 is plus size. Wow. I didn't know Tyra Banks was a plus, plus size model 'cause there's no way she's size 10 or smaller.
