Are Hatton and Mayweather avoiding there natural opponents?

I can't see why Hatton and Mayweather need to fight each other again when they both have obvious opponents in Cotto and Witter. Cotto is similar to what Hatton was pre defeat To Mayweather, an unbeaten two weight world champion. The fight would make both fighters alot of money which seems to be Mayweathers main priority, but he still seems to never mention Cotto when talking about future opponents.

Also Hatton has a natural big fight against Junior Witter which he seems reluctant to take. If he fought Mayweather again Hatton would most probably lose. If he fought Witter it would actually be a hard one to call, but i feel a defeat to Mayweather would be alot easier to take than a defeat to Witter.

Do you think Hatton and Mayweather want to fight again just to avoid these guys? Your thoughts?.

I have no doubt that Mayweather will eventually fight Cotto. Floyd just seems to like to do things when he wants to and on his terms. If he were to retire early with such a natural opponent out there that he could have fought, it would definently raise some questions.

Hatton might never face Witter, but you can give Ricky a pass on this in my opinion because he has been consistent on the issue through out his career. Its not like he just started saying he wouldnt fight him when Witter's stature started to rise. It would certainly be a shame if the Hatton never fought Witter, but I dont think it would be a large black mark on his career. Witter needs Hatton to raise his status alot more than Hatton needs Witter.

If Vargas v De La Hoya can happen, after Oscar said he would never face Fernando, then there is still some hope for Witter v Hatton coming off. It would be a good money making opportunity for both me.

One thing about boxing that the majority of casual fans don't understand is the business aspect. That's why comparing modern fighters to the guys of the past is so hard because in the 70's boxing wasn't so business oriented. Floyd and Hatton are trying to make the right decisions to further their careers. Hatton just suffered a devastating knockout loss to fight a high risk low reward fight with Witter as his comeback would be the dumbest thing he could do after a fighter is knocked out he has to build is confidence up before getting another crack at it. Witter is dangerous and most fans outside the UK or hardcore boxing fans don't know who he is and Hatton waiting until Witter can bring more to the table is smart. Its the same situation with Floyd. Cotto is good and should get a title shot at him but Cotto is a stranger to the Casual boxing fans he doesn't have enough to bring to the table he can offer money but who is going to buy the PPV besides hardcore fans. Floyd and Hatton will fight Cotto and Witter but we have to give them time both guys just fought less than 6 months ago let them rest before we jump right to the next guy. IT takes 6 months to a Year to make big fights like that happen Cotto has two fights for this year already so Floyd might as well fight oscar again and then wait for cotto hopefully by then he'll be a mainstream star.

I think that Mayweather wants to fight Hatton again because it is easy money for him. I think that Hatton wants to fight Floyd again because 1) it gives him another shot at the best fighter in the world and 2) he is starting to believe his lame excuses as to why he got owned by Mayweather- he thinks it was Joe Cortez's fault. I am like you and everyone else- I want to see Floyd fight Cotto, and I think that they will eventually fight, but it will unfortunately take a while before it goes down. Floyd even said on Friday Night Fights that people can demand him to fight someone all they want, but he won't fight them until HE is ready. He will fight De La Hoya in September of this year, will most likely fight Hatton next year, and since he most likely will only fight once a year until he retires, the Cotto fight will not come until 2010. Thats a long time and Cotto will have to remain unbeaten, but if everything goes the way FLOYD wants it too, then I think they will eventually throw down.

As for Hatton, I think that the risk-reward ratio for a fight with Witter is not good enough for him to accept. At least with Floyd, even if he loses, people will say that "he was outweighed", "he lost to the best", not to mention he will get a substantial amount of money- this was all the case in their first fight and it will be the case again if they fight a rematch. With Junior Witter, people will not be so forgiving if he loses because Witter is naturally the same weight as him and Witter is no where near as globally known as Floyd is. Yes, it would be huge in England, but not that many casual fans in the U.S. know who Witter is despite the fact that he is an excellent boxer whose only loss was to a prime Zab Judah. Hatton is still the linear and true Junior Welterweight champ, but if he wants to be the BEST Junior Welterweight in the world, then I think that he should try and defend his title against Witter because Witter deserves the recognition. If he loses again to Floyd (which he most likely will if they fight again), then I think that he should and will stop trying to move up in weight and fight his top contender, Junior Witter. I think that it will eventually happen, but just like Mayweather-Cotto, it will take a while (although I don't think Hatton-Witter will take AS LONG).

been saying it for years..... at least for mayweather .... has not fought a welterweight since he won the title ...instead he fought an over the hill 154 pound delahoya then a smaller 140 pound Hatton.....Mayweather has been avoiding the top welterweights ....Hatton is hard to say he avioded anyone since he did take the top dog in a division above his own....but for mayweather he should cancel the fight with delahoya and take the winner of Cintron Margarito next..... forget Cotto guys is too small to beat mayweather and is a pipe dream but if you want Cotto to get embarrased let them fight....remember that Cotto has never called out Mayweather so im not sure he thinks he can win...and after seeing Cotto(all 5'7 of him) run from Mosely the last few rounds not even sure if would be interesting ....and if Cotto can not hurt Mosely he will not hurt Mayweather either.... Margarito and Cintron are both big Welterweights that have real KO power and not just against guys the are suppose to KO ... but Mayweather has a point that none of the fighters will bring as money as a Delahoya or Hatton.... Cotto has a large PR fan base but nothing else and the Same with Margarito but with MExicans ....but who knows maybe both Cotto and Margarito get beat in a week and it becomes a mute point

Hatton is stalling long enough for people to forget about his KO loss to mayweather. he knows that over time people will start to believe in him again and he can make more money then than he could now. plus he knows that PPV will have more buys if americans can see him destroy another fighter, since we only got to see a couple of his fights in recent years. Floyd is dogging cotto for the same reason, plus he knows that if he is ever beaten his mystique and demand will dwindle as will his purses. So i think he is waiting until he sees what happens with oscar and whether cotto can make even more of a name for himself. and don't forget witter and cotto have a chance of winning those fights if they happen. mayweather needs to be undefeated thats his selling point. hatton loses to witter and people will call for his retirement. with floyd people will start saying that he was overrated

I dont know where you got Hatton-Mayweather were having a rematch I am not one that believes that he is ducking Cotto just waiting out to see who from the Marg,PW,Cott,Cintron group distinguishes himself as the top contender and Hatton is scared of Witter and rightfully so he would get murdered.

Whoever wins could face Cotto. it truly is the sole matchup that is stable for the sport. Hatton might take de l. a. Hoya first, yet in trouble-free terms for the money and exposure. If Mayweather loses, he could retire.

ok, first of all who told you that theres gonna be Hatton- Mayweather 2? Floyd Mayweather is having another Oscar DeLayo fight, before he is rumored to retire. I dont know about Hatton. Why would mayweather fight hatton again? He already has a 7th round knockout over him.
