Do senior citezen care about the rest of society?

I believe that they love their families, but what of the rest of the population? I am 25 and don't think that society respects and treats our wise and experienced, how they would like to be treated when they become elderly.

I saw a documentary about a college student spending a month in a nursing home and befreinds the people there.

God bless you, I think it is the older people who care more about what happens in society than just their immediate circle of family and friends, that's why seniors vote more regularly and in bigger numbers.

Hopefully seniors have come to see the bigger picture.

More young people who supposedly have " community service pre-requisites" to graduate should be spending time with seniors, not just in old age homes, but their elderly neighbours, people at church, temple, mosque and finding out about the seniors life and experiences , they might be totally surprised at what they learn and they might learn that old people aren't just nuissances or a human atm machine .

I think Clare has something there and she should use her mighty reasoning to bow out now. why wait? she could be hit by a car and be a burden to the rest of us tomorrow. Time to go.

I 'm not sure how you mean 'do we care about the rest of society'. The problems that belong to the young are no longer of interest to me. Been there , done that. They can find their way and my answers that worked for me were of a different time with different rules.

I don't need to solve the problems of the universe any more, my universe has shrunk... :)

We care, we listen carefully, we vote, we go to town board meetings, planning commission meetings, all to better our area for future generations. I'd love to see a young person at a meeting, someday I hope. Unfortunately, they have such busy lives. I'm away from any major cities, out here, I still find the younger generations respectful, everyone knows everbody. Some even stop at the house for questions answered. We try to help, or steer them in the direction for their answer. It would be interesting to see the documentary.

Yes it is a good question! Seniors care a LOT about the rest of society- well at least I do...

I have children, and grandchildren- and I want them to inherit the best world they possibly can. Life goes on and on...

We have to keep the world a great place for our progeny to live in!

Seniors care a great deal about all the people, that is why you see senior volunteering in hospitals, nursing homes, libraries and schools , helping children who have a problem with reading or any other subject.

We live in a gated Senior community. There are several women that live here that volunteer at the local hospital. They are called "Pink Ladies". A lot of Seniors do this type of work ..... some of them just to get out of the house for a few hours a week.

Due to health issues I can not do it ... but if I could .... you bet I would! ;-)

I don't think that the seniors are treated very well either. It is a shame that some are poor and needy. We have so much money going out to welfare, it needs to be designated for the seniors.

Seniors care very much. What a good question!

I see so many doing volunteer work, from helping the homeless to a retired biologist at our natural science museum helping kids catch bugs and watch birds.

I tend to keep to my own world by choice ..just use this site to make some social moves. The wisdom bit doesnt apply so much now....science has moved on so fast...experience is still valid though.
