I'll remember how MLK persevered without guns, unlike today's protesters, and I'll honor Malcolm X also who, later in his life, became a born again Christian and follower of MLK.

Like MLK, he was assassinated by vengeful men when he became a man of peace.

And I've got to pass this on from MLK day:

"Joseph is five and just learning to read in kindergarten. As part of Black History Month, school is closed on Martin Luther King day. So that day Joseph’s mother asked him what they taught him in school about Martin Luther King. “We learned he’s a fricken’ American,” Joseph said. “WHAT DID YOU CALL HIM!?,” his mother exclaimed. Joseph, rather taken aback, showed his mother a picture he had been given of Martin Luther King, the great “African-American”

I have a History Paper I wrote about Dr. King in my Jr. year of college. I received a 99, and my Prof. wrote, "Great research!" on top because I had read so many books to write a good paper. Every year I take it out and read it aloud at The Middle School here in town. The essay includes how I felt at 14 when Dr. King was shot, how my parents reacted and tried to explain it to me... a very political little girl who loved him very much. This year I especially enjoyed the reading since it was the 40th Anniversary. It's always so touching to see how passionately the 'tweens' react. Then we all light candles and have white cupcakes with white frosting.

Source(s): PS. They don't know the cupcakes are coming, lol!

I will be certain to do/be excellent this day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. since excellence is the best response to oppressive measures. He and others like him deserve to be recognized today and everyday because so many of us reap the reward of their struggle and subsequent achievements in life which have became a benefit to all who wish to capitalize upon them. One that I'd like to mention is that in studying Dr. King I've come to see that Love is most powerful and unfailing, even when it looks week and defeated...rejoice and be of good cheer for in today is good tiding...take care.

I'll honor him by speaking up for what I believe in, protecting the rights of others, and trying to make the world a better place.

I can't relate, I'm not black. If I was, I would. I do relate to President John F. Kennedy being gunned down in Dallas.
