    asteroid

It's not controversial or unknown any more. The evidence for the asteroid hypothesis is overwhelming. The earth is covered with a layer of iridium that is sixty-five million years old, iridium is found predominantly in asteroids, there was a mass extinction sixty-five million years ago that included the dinosaurs, and there is the huge Chicxulub crater off of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico that is sixty-five million years old.

A catastrophic event caused a sudden change in climate, reducing food and basically causing the starvation of essentially all of the large species. Whether it was a space body crashing into the earth, the huge eruption of volcanic rocks in India (Deccan traps), or both at the same time is an open argument (both could produce the iridium signature mentioned in another post). Whichever it was, or whether something else as yet unidentified caused it is not really known for fact, but whatever it was, it was nasty and really really severe and really quick. Creatures that survived on eating decaying stuff, like inground insects and worms seemed to survive, as did those animals that relied heaviliy on insects and bugs and similar scavanger creatures.

I love dinosaurs!!! I love to read anything and everything about them! I got my little boy hooked on them. I personally believe that it was the asteroid that hit the earth around what is now the Gulf of Mexico. They say that this asteroid was about 4 to 6 miles wide! Dust covered the earth for years and years, there was nothing to eat. Temperatures dropped. Oh! It is all so interesting! When I read my son his book of dinosaurs, he always wants to know when they're coming back.. so cute!

Here's a website that has interesting facts.

    Have fun!

There's a lot of different theories, none of them proven. Most of them involve serious climate change of some sort, whether caused by an asteroid, an ice-age, or something else.

Mc Donalds was started over 500,000 million years ago before god invented beef. soooooooooo, they had to use dinosaur for the burgers and after a few million years they ran out of dinosaur and had to switch off to fish sandwiches. Then when that ran out they introduced french fies made from caveman potatoes and that's when beef arrived....the rest is history.

If you are interested, there were lots of mass extinctions. Not all of them caused by astoroids. Do some real research.

According to what i have read, it says like a huge fire rock drop from the sky and killed all the dinosaurs. (Quite weird)

No one knows why but scientists think that asteroid causes it.
