what kind of spider is this?

i found this spider at work that at first glance i thought was a black widow (it was about the same size, if not a little smaller). upon closer inspection, i saw that it had an orange-ish stripe on its abdomen with 2 spots of the same color below the stripe. it also had legs of different lengths. it had four legs shorter than the other four. it 'stood' in such a way that the shorter legs were kind of folded under the longer legs, with the 'foot' of the shorter leg directly under the last joint on the longer leg. if you don't understand, imagine an upper-case F turned sideways, with the bottom attached to the body. the leg joints were a yellowish-orange. i found it on a roll on bubble wrap (packing material) so i have no idea what kind of web it might spin. i know i'm not crazy or anything (beyond the usual stuff) because i showed it to about 10 other people who had never seen a spider like this. i've tried google and have had no luck.

Update:

oh yeah, i found it in buena vista, va (central va, about 100 miles or so west of richmond)

Update 2:

it's definitely not a brown recluse. this spider is black

I even have purely discovered a nest, in my backyard, of what seems to be one hundred's of little yellow and black spiders newly hatched...on no account seen them in the past in my existence.... Being slightly worried (Yellow and Black is oftentimes natures take-heed call) I even have completed countless searches... After trawling the internet it appears that evidently it possibly be one among those Argiope (black and yellow backyard spider) regardless of the undeniable fact that it fairly is a US spider and that i'm living interior the united kingdom... extra looking shows their is a 'Wasp Spider' it is present day in Contienial Europe and on occasion the South Coast of britain... which continues to be a secret as I stay interior the Midlands(England - united kingdom) it is miles from the any coast permit basically the South Coast.... could I be charging people to come returned and visit my backyard to work out this uncommon internet site or is there yet another form of spider out right here? they do no longer look to be unstable to people are they I believe??? - my mum is extremely anxiouis!!! Could also be a Brown Widow

There are many color variations of brown Widows including Grey

It could have been a Brown Recluse. They are very nasty spiders. And their bite can cause serious problems.
