the notion of celebrity has gone too far. Celebrities, with their perfect looks, which they touch up at the plastic surgeons office, and their 'perfect' lives etc have become the major role models of today. Their personal lives have infiltrated serious news broadcasts and we're constantly seeing stories about the 'beautiful people' of the world. When this sort of vanity takes the place of real life issues in the world, what can we expect kids to think?
kids can't measure up to celebrities that have teams of people making sure they look good and say the right things all the time, but they don't know that and still expect to measure up.
Kids probably also get pressured earlier and earlier and more and more because the world is getting a lot more competitive with schooling and careers.

At the age of 18, in which i am, youngsters that have negative self perfection are mostly because they haven't evolved their personality enough. No security against bad influence both from media and from younsters that seem to know what their are doing, have they created all these yearsand they seem to believe that their future is going to be awful. Just informatively, desperation acts, come closer to their minds..

dear all, i didn't know they did. do you think it is more prevelant than years ago ?? i do KNOW our first building blocks of self perception is infancy. it is the mirroring effect. we read the looks of those infront of us, and lay it in stone inside of ourselves, building the foundation of us. in infancy, if we see love and acceptance in the faces in our face, how wonderful. the alternatives are many, and the effects of, very sad indeed. the first three years is the most important in the human development. that is when we build the foundation of who we are, and that greatly affects our lifes, as long as we live. thank you, toni

increasingly focused on celebrities, "reality tv" and living in a capitalistic society where they see everybody else with stuff that they want. in short, they're constantly comparing themselves to others (and figures in the media do not exactly look like your average citizen, nor do they have to adhere to the average budget). in doing those comparisons it's easy to see why they would feel badly about themselves.
but that's just my opinion. i'm not a teenager so i'm going off sheer observation here. i could be (and probably am) way off.

They can't compete with size 0 models. I think this is also the reason when annorexia is at an all time high.

Because their parents raised them from books instead of from their hearts ... and now the kids have become idiots .
Not the kid's fault . It's the parents fault .
