Greeting procedures are important because it shows a level of professionalism, it identifies the company in your case that the caller has reached the help desk, and you identify yourself making the call more personable.

greeting procedures are your first impression... you give the listener a glimpse of yourself... If you sound happy, then they think they think they have someone who is happy, and someone who WANTS to help them. Also, greeting shows you value the other person... it's like a respect thing and welcoming all at once.
It also starts the conversation on the right foot... if you have an upset client calling in about a problem, you want to diffuse the situation, not make it worse. So, you try to sound friendly and soothe the person into listening and following your directions which should help their problem get resolved too.

Greeting procedures are important to show respect or politeness to other people. People need to be treated with respect and dignity.
I hope this helps.

Because it shows a kind of decency and respect for a person that you don't even know. A polite greeting gives off a much better vibe than a mean one, or worse, a person who doesn't even give a flip.
Happiness is contagious, even if it is fake. Spread it around.

In transactional analysis the transaction must be one of consonance with the reality one part of the transaction wishes to convey to the other part. A constructive and complimentary interchange on the adult level is usually the best for introductions where the subject on the other end of the transaction is an unknown entity.

From your greetings. People will know who you are from their first impression to you. They can know what kind of culture you came from. People will be interested in talking to you further if you are good on your greetings.
