Automatically in the sandsea.
And I got there before!

The river? That, I think, is not the way to the Sandsea. If you can get back to Rabanastre, you have to go through the Westersand area to reach the Sandsea. The Westersand is, as it's name implies, to the west of Rabanastre. You'll know you're going the right way if you come across a merchant with a chocobo.
