I love Claudio Monterverdi's works - Adoramus Te, cantate domino etc. I like the way that the harmony is simply a by product of part writing unlike the chorales of the Baroque. That means for me it's lighter to listen to.
Oh and I love plainchant - anything sung in Dorian mode in an echoing atmosphere sounds cool.

For extra present day works I fairly like: Karol Szymanowski's "Stabat Mater" it fairly is between the main suitable choral works of the 20 th century. and of direction for absolute bliss the Requiem by ability of Gabriel Faure, which i've got purely those days discovered yet have been thoroughly smitten with it. I have already got 5 recordings of this one paintings and fairly love the unique chamber orchestrated version which depicts Faure's ingenious and prescient extra intimately. P.S additionally going back extra a dash: Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis", majestically powerful.
