Gun permit??

Ive been divorced for 8yrs now but, when I was separated my ex wife acused me of being violent with her even though I never touched a hair on her head. She got a restraining order against me with her false accusations. Can that restraining order stop me from getting a gun permit?? And also is their a permit to carry a gun in just more than one state at a time?? When you are a truck driver and go to allot of strange places, I dont think it should be against the law to have one with you!!!

As long as you don't have a Domestic Violence Conviction and don't have a current protective order against you, you should be able eligible to obtain a permit, assuming you don't have any significant criminal history. And there is no Federal permit but there are some state permits that allow you to carry in more states. I have an Indiana and a non-resident Utah permit. These allow me to carry in over 30 states. You would need to check the state laws for whichever state you are traveling through. However, there is Federal legislation that allows to you transport a firearm through another state as long as you are just passing through and the gun is in a locked container, seperate from the ammunition and you do not have easy acess to it. That way, if you are traveling through a state where you cannot legally carry, you can stow your firearm until you cross through that state and still be legal.

Were you charged with a Domestic Violence offense? If so, you need to check with the County Attorney or State Attorney office to see if you still have a right to own or possess a gun. If you were not, you are ALMOST home free.

Is the Restraining Order still in effect? It it is, you will not be able to get a gun. If not, you should have no problem.

Some States will recognize another state's concealed carry permit. Below is a link that might help.

Be advised that you will help yourself considerably in getting some training about concealed carry, it responsibilities, obligations, and consequences.

That is not true rain, although there are strict rules and regulations you have to adhear by if you are thinking of obtaining a gun permit in australia. you need a reason for needing a gun licence i.e sports, hunting. and first and foremost join a gun club before you even think of applying for one. The accusations of violence a nd restraining order will do no good in bettering your chances of obtaining one either, even though im pretty sure its only if you have a criminal conviction for a offence of a violent nature.

Source(s): Done some research awhile ago on it, refering to gun permit laws in nsw only, can't help with other states sorry.

In my state, any DV on your record will initially prevent you from being able to get a permit. When they mail your rejection letter, they will usually give you a chance to appeal it and explain the situation, or you could call the state office that handles the permits and try talking to them. If your telling us the whole story about the past and your current motives, you should be okay just might have to jump through a few hoops.

and several states have reciprocal permit agreements...you would need to get a list of states that have agreements with the issuing state.
