They do have to account for their expenditures...
Most of the millions goes towards advertising... radio and television mostly. Obama has been flooding both in my state lately, NC. Some commercials, like during the Super Bowl Obama had one, cost in the millions just for one.
There is also the other stuff... staff wages, office space, travel, etc...

Mailings, radio ads, tv spots, logistics, transportation, cars, planes, buses, hotels, catering, dry cleaning, events, employees, computers, building rentals.....did I mention the tv spots? What are you high or something? You think it costs a few hundred thousand dollars to run for President?
