Need ideas for building an automatic horse feeder...?
I would like to figure out how to build my own automatic feeder. Examples of commercial automatic feeders quickfeed.com or profeeder.com. Basically feed would be stored (either premeasured or in bulk) and timer would be set for times during the day to release the feed into a chute and into the feed pan.
I was thinking of several chutes (i.e.pvc pipe) that hold premeasured grain...which would eliminate the weight of the bulk grain and also the measuring aspect...but haven't determined how to release the chute at timed intervals...
Any ideas?????

Get a Moultrie Auto Deer feeder...the kind that hangs (around $100.00)...remove the spinner and add a coffee can or tube (PVC pipe) directing the pellets into the dish. OR just buy the mechanics of the dispenser-also by Moultrie($50.00) and use a big Home Depot bucket as your container. Easy as pie. If your State won't sell these, get it from another state that will. I live in So Cal and got it in Bullhead City, Arizona while on a trip to the River!

Lol, how are you going to prevent the larger dog from pressing the lever on all three of your "contraptions" and consuming whole bags of food?? How difficult is it to stay there for 15 minutes, twice a day to separate them while they eat their food, seriously? Add: It would be cheaper to buy roll fencing , and section off the pen to separate the 2 smaller dogs from the bigger dog, than to come up with any kind of electronic collar devise that signals food to drop out of some feeder. The big dog would park herself and her collar outside the food and let it dispense all day long. Roll fencing at home depot is cheap, even cheaper used on craigslist.
