What is the difference between "being reported by the Y!A community" and getting a VN that doesn't say that...
... you were reported by a member of the community? I was under the impression that only reporters got you a VN. Does YA actually police the site? I have a hard time buying that because I get VNs for no good reason, as do many of my contacts.
Almost all of my VNs have no reason, or a reason like "Neither a Q nor an A," but opnly once have I gotten one that says I was reported by the community. Does that mean that Yahoo is out to get me?

Don't worry, my army of war kittens is nearly complete. I just need to go through the KFC drive-thru to get a few more sporks to finish arming them. Then we will march on Y!A and stampede the women and rape the cattle.

One time I was trying to be a good Samaritan by asking a question so I could give Ompelley a best answer, and I got a VN, for insulting other participants.
It was kind of bittersweet, because thats the first time I had ever gotten a VN for that reason!

I know! I got a VN today because I asked a question on who knew this song. Being reported is somebody reports you, and then sometimes Yahoo will delete your question or answer. A VN is your question/answer was deleted, and you may have to tell Yahoo why you thought it didn't violate community guidelines, which I had to do today. If they don't agree with your argument, then you lose 10 points.

YA polices the site, yes, but not as much as we (the Community) does. There is also a 'prescreening filter' on questions that can flag things for review by the staff at a later date that can cause it. But you are correct that MOST of the VNs come from reporters on the site using the 'Report' feature.

you are under the wrong impression
VNs = yahoo
Reporting notice = other users
Its that simple, i've gone as far to pose this question directly to yahoo and surprisingly got a real response.
They said the VN's come from yahoo, however, once you are reported, Yahoo will do a spot check of your Q/A, and that's why many times OLD Q/A's receive VN's.

A Violation Notice takes your 10 points. " Your Question has been reported ..." doesn't take away 10 points but if you appeal it , you lose 10 points. so better to leave it as it is. consider yourself lucky if you only got the second one. Tectonic : I always lose 10 points *cries* maybe because you flirt with Yahoo...

I had an answer reported by the community for calling I Fought Yahoo a cheapskate. Mostly my questions are caught by Yahoo and have no legitimate reason stated for why it was deleted. I honestly think people give more credit to reporters than they deserve.

Wonder guesses that the Y!A staff are constantly watching as Q and A are posted and even if no one reports a Q and A, IF a staff member views something as being "against community guidelines" the Y!A staff has the authority to pull it, regardless.
Isn't life grand?

If you got reported by the community then someone reported your question and the other one means that yahoo filtered your question and violated it themselves. I think that some people are on a watch list around here - including me.

I haven't had a VN in months. Not since I changed my name and avatar. The trolls must like ol' Bob.
