3. What is a possible cause of a large percentage of error in an experiment where MgO is produced from the?

combustion of magnesium?

A. Not all of the Mg has completely reacted.

B. The same balance was used throughout the experiment

C. The students were careful in their measurements

D. The students were careful not to spill the contents

    c. this is a an measurable systematic error due to the inaccuracy of equipment and creates potentially large percentage errors.

    a. is not an error, that is just to do with equilibria and chemical inertness.

    d. not an experimental error, this kind of error may not be included as is avoidable and not a calculated error. if there is spillage the experiment should be started again

    b. the same balance should b used to avoid discrepancies
