IRS checks?

Those checks that the IRS is sending out in May to help the economy:

We have already been sent a paper saying we are getting money from them. I am just unsure if we will be getting just 600 or 1200

I did not work/make any income. That is what is confusing me. Will we get the 1200 even though I did not make income? We still filed jointly on our return.

Update:

we are married filing jointly

Update 2:

no children

It depends on how much net income tax the two of you paid on your joint return. Since you filed jointly, you are looked at together, and it doesn't matter who actually earned the money.

See http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/ to calculate what your payment will be. Have your tax return handy - you'll need it to fill out the screen.

do you have a taxable liability??? if so, you will be able to get 1200 v/s 600...

though if your liability is less then 1200, you might just receive your liability amount and receive the difference on next yrs tax return.
