I dont want a 'true' road bike because my favorite riding areas involve mixing in some gravel roads and a few miles of dirt path. Thx

Crosscheck all day long. Excellent tire clearance, Steel, convertible to SS, rear spacing will accomodate road or MTN hubs, tough as nails, comfy. I did a pretty rough trail the other day on my Crosscheck (with 44's on) with some guys who were both on full suspension rigs, and kept up fairly well. Crosscheck can do anything, but it really shines on hardpack dirt roads and double track. My favorite bike ever. You won't be disappointed. I have seen lots of the ones that your considering. All of those are great. I ended up with a Jamis Nova cyclocross and I love it. I haven't had any experience with the tubless tire concept though.

All of them are excellent hybrid bikes! ( though I would suggest you check the Kona 'Jake the Snake' instead of the Surly).
