suppose equal amounts of solutions of HCl and NaOH with the same concentration are mixed together. What will the ph of the new solution be?

    Combining the two equal solns as you indicated results in a new soln composed of HOH and NaCl - water and salt. Since pH is the log of the hydrogen ion concentration, and there are no free hydrogen ions in this soln, then the measurement = zero free hydrogen ions or 7 on the pH scale which is neutral. This is the theoretical perfect of course, discounting any reaction losses / gains etc.
