what is the right amount to tip a preacher for performing a wedding ceremony?

Honestly, there is no set amount. It's what you can afford. Weddings are not cheap and they realize this so do what you honestly can do.
My personal thought is no less then $200.00 and that is if I attend that church. If it is a church that is allowing you to have your wedding there and you do not attend then I would say more.
The very least would be $100.00 and that means giving your cable bill money to the preacher. I hope this help.

I don't know if I would be a good example for you, but we got married 25 years ago and I remember giving him $50.00. I do remember 25 years ago $50.00 was allot of money.
We got married in the back yard of our first house, so the preacher had to travel about 8 miles to the house. (When gas was .70 cents a gallon.)

If there's no set amount, $200 is about right.
It's not called a tip - it's a fee, honorarium, or donation...
