Dry rot occurs to almost all rubber and plastic material when left exposed to the weather for long periods of time. Dry rotted tires will fail in a bad way.

A visual inspection will reveal many small cracks in the material.

However, many shops will tell you anything to sell there product. I suggest that you see a tire technician at a smaller scale shop.

The dealership or "stealership" as I call it is a wast of money.

That is a new one. I assume the rubber is cracking from age (dry rot is referred to wood only) and if there is dry rot, your tires are from the stone age.

Dry rot, means that the rubber has dried out and decayed. has the vehicle been setting in one spot a long time without being moved?

It means the tires may still have tread, but the rubber is deteriorating and weak. I would get a second opinion from someone who is not selling tires or new cars.

it means that the tires have been sitting for quite a while, and the rubber has degraded to the point that the tire can come apart while you are driving. you can usually tell by looking at them. they will have cracks all over the side walls
