Why does my new computer lose ALL memory?
I just bought a new HP Pavilion a6419fh PC and I shut it down rather than put it to sleep. Now it has done a complete system reset and all of my files (documents, photos etc.) and Mozilla browser favorites are gone. Luckily I've only had it for a few days so I didn't have that many files but man am I ticked. I'm pretty good with computers but this has me stumped. I'm sure there is a way to find the files but I've searched and searched the 'c' drive. Any help would be appreciated!
Hey thanks Chickster, but I've decided to go get my money back. I've only had it since Monday and since I have to review hundreds of photos per week for work I need a computer that's not gonna take a @#$%^ when it shuts down.
And no, the photos aren't porn!

Your laptop should still be under warranty, and I suggest using it,(Unless it's from a couple of store chains, which I won't name. Sounds like they have a bad rep. In this case I'd see if you could send it straight back to the factory, or there's another tech shop you could take it to. Just my 2cent's!) If your warranty allows it, you could buy a cheap external enclosure USB style like this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTool... , put the laptop drive in it, and hook it to a desktop. Use recuva from www.recuva.com, and see if you can get those files back. As you know, I'm sure, the more you write over these files, or mess with this harddrive, the less chance you have of recovering.
