The account will remain active for 30 days after the money expires, then will go to cancelled status. Once it goes to cancelled status you have 59 days to get it reinstated before the account is closed for good. Chances are, it is too late and your account has been cancelled, and when you get back to the states you are going to need to go into a store and get a new number and sim card. Once a sim card is put on an account, it will never work on another. So if your account is cancelled, your sim card is no good, so it is not as simple as calling in and having a new number put on it..

You can email att, but have to log into your online account to do it, and if it has been cancelled, it will not recognize you to be able to log in. Kind of a catch-22, I know..
