I am doing research on my fave car. So does anybody remember how the Nissan Maxima came into being?

I say it was birthed initially by Datsun, who then became Nissan. The Maxima to me is hands down the best built car around. I remember it was not called the Maxima at first, but later came into that name after Datsun. Also, I thought it was called the Salene in Japan and that was the racing version. Also, Maximas have been built with Manual transmissions, but not the 2009, which is a beast. Anyone else out there as enthralled with the Maxima as I am? If so throw some knowledge my way! I have a babymax (sentra) for now. love the 1997 through 99 maximas too

The Max is a very well done car. In the late 80's, early 90's Nissan dubbed it the "4DSC", or 4 Door Sports Car.

Here is a Wiki page with lots of info.

Datsun 810 back in 1983 and in 1984 it became the Maxima. Datsun 1200 and 1300 sedans eventually morphed into the base model sentra and 200sx
