There are many different types of adapters ranging from $1.50 to $150. The difference would be the capabilities and quality of the picture. Keep in mind that most older without VGA TVs have a limitation of 800x600.
You will be able to watch DVDs, Divx, movies and play games and pictures, but you probably will not be surfing the intarweb much. It will be very blurry hard to read and grainy.
Hope this helps...

You should have an S-Video port on your TV. Even some televisions made before 2000 have the port. You should recognize it by a circular port with 8 holes, a square on top and a rectangle on the bottom. If not, there are adapters available for switching from VGA or S-Video to the standard red-white-yellow AV cables.

Depends on what inputs your tv has and what outputs your pc has. If you have a hd tv and a pc with an hdmi out on gfx card, then yep, an hdmi cable will be all you need. If they don't though you may need a different type of cable. Most graphics cards will have one or more dvi or vga connection's, so don't threat if theres no hdmi out as these will likely be all you need. If the tv has a vga input, then a vga cable is probably all you need, if not though you'll likely want to look in to getting a dvi to hdmi adapter, which will allow you to run the dvi in the the hdmi port (Dvi and hdmi work in a pretty similar way, only downside of dvi is it won't include sound, so you'd have to hook some speakers up to your pc for that) Anyways, hope that helps

you can buy a VGA to S-video converter for about 50 bucks. Check out cablestogo.com and search for VGA converter. As long as your tv has S-video this will work.
