What do I do about not attaching an important form to my tax return?

I just mailed my 2007 tax return and I realized too late that I hadn't attached my Schedule A for itemized deductions. Should I attached it to a copy of my return and remail it? Or maybe quickly file a request for more time. I feel like such a doofus.

If you claimed itemized deductions on form 1040, they may send you the refund. They may recalculate based on the standard deduction.

They will probably send you a letter stating that they did not receive that document and request you send it again.

I would call the IRS and explain what happened before you mail anything in. They will tell you what to do. Call 1-800-829-1040
