my son has always slept through the night and now he tosses and turns keeping me up ( he is in his crib its still in my room )and because of that he wakes up early and is fussy all day only wanting to sleep. he will take his first nap like a hour after he wakes up. I dont know what to do we both need to start sleeping better. I have recently taking his bumper out of his crib for safety reason could that be why? sounds crazy but you never know Please help me anyone with advice

He may have his nights and days mixed up.

Some babies sleep better during the day, as there is all the daily noises around them, so at night when they go through their different sleep stages especially the light phase, there aren't all the noises, it might be quiet, so maybe having the radio on a low volume so that there is alwasy noise.

Making sure that he doesn't sleep much during the day, maybe only 2 sleeps of about 2 hours each, as if he sleeps more, he may not be as tired during the night.

That is good news that you have taken teh cot bumper out of his cot, as it allows better air flow throughout the cot.

If you can handle it, i would suggest that you put him into his own room, as you hear every move that he makes while lying in his bed next to you, so there for you are not getting any sleep, and he in turn could be disturbed by the noises that in your room at night.

Hope this makes sense, good luck from a mum with 3 children 5yrs and 3yr old twins

I have a 2 year old daughter who has started doing the same. I was wondering if she's starting to have dreams/nightmares. She's starting to get a bit better now (from every night to around 1-2 nights disturbed sleep a week). I found that sticking to her routine religiously prior to bedtime helped and when she wakes up, I tell her that she needs sleep to be strong enough to play and have fun the next day. She responds to it really well and starts to think about what she'd like to do the next day with her newfound energy - within 15 minutes of thinking on her own, she's asleep until 7-8. There have been a couple of nights that this hasn't worked. On this instances, I've taken her through the bedtime routine again (showing her how dark it is outside first), then go through above and she then goes to sleep (takes about 8-10 mins). Good luck - I know exactly how you are feeling. XX ;-)

could it be there is to much stimulus before bed time give him play time after his supper them bath then read to calm him before bed time don't let him nap after a certain time of the day also he sleeps in your room how quite is it for him to sleep there. you will have to make note of everything to be able to pinpoint it down on why the changes. just remember he is growing and he changes everyday and so do his needs
