Why do clouds sometimes float high and sometimes low ?

    ( 1 ) The amount of moisture air can hold depends on temperature, warmer air can hold more than colder air.

    ( 2 ) Generally, the air is colder at higher elevations than lower elevations.

    Weather forecasters have charts to show the normal temperature of the air at different heights. These charts also show the relative humidity of the air at different heights. The forecaster then takes the current temperature and dew point temperatures and uses the chart to find where they meet. Clouds will form at this heighth.

    So the heighth that clouds form depends mostly on temperature and moisture.

    It all depends on the amount of heat in the armosphere, and where the hottest areas are situated. The higher the temperature, the more moisture can be held. Precipitation happens when the temperature falls to Dew Point,
