Transit from Rahway, Nj to New York?
We are going to be staying in Rahway, NJ for 7 days in May and I'd like to know what options we have from there to get into the city.

That's my train! It's the Northeast Corridor (the abbreviation is NEC). The ride to Manhattan from Rahway takes about 30 to 35 minutes (I take it from Princeton, and that's about a 45- to 50-minute ride). The rush hour trains will incur extra costs: It's $12.25 EACH WAY, and if you buy your ticket on the train, it costs about an extra three dollars (or something like that; can't remember the exact amount). The offpeak tickets are $7 each way. You can save money if you buy the weekly passes, though.
On a weekday, the earliest train to leave Rahway is at 4:34 a.m.; the last to leave NYC TO Rahway is at 1:41 a.m. On the weekend, the earliest train to leave Rahway is at 5:51 a.m.; the last to leave NYC TO Rahway is at 1:31.
Be careful to check the schedule before you go. Starting on May 11, Amtrak will be working on something like 27 railroad ties on the NEC track. They've told us that this means that schedules will be affected (reducing the number of trains riding the rails). Schedules are to be updated every 6 to 10 weeks, so you should definitely check the schedule for the NEC, to make sure that the times are still the same.
Have fun!

The easiest is to take New Jersey Transit, which operates a commuter train throughout the day between Rahway and Penn Station in New York.
The trip takes about 45 minutes, is comfortable, and will cost about $7 each way, depending upon the time of day that you travel. Trains operate about every 30 minutes, and there's service seven days a week, including into the evening.
Here's a link to New Jersey Transit:

The guy above is correct. The trains actually operate through 1:00AM in the morning and begin again around 5 or 6am. You don't need to transfer either because the train from Rahway goes straight to NY Penn Station. As long as you don't travel during rush hour, you can probably get a ticket for $10 round trip. Check njtransit.com for exact schedule and fare information.
