So I'm Thinking about getting a 2000 Mazda Protege LX. Is this a good car?

I'm a school student, and this would be my first car. The one I'm specifically looking at is selling for $4,988 with 89,034 miles on it. Are the Mazda Protege a god car to get? Do they last long, and how many miles per gallon? I'm also wondering, how cheap are they to have stuff done to them? (ex; body kit, exhaust, other cool teen stuff)

I love mine. It would make a great first car, in fact, I will be giving mine to my nephew for his first car at the end of this year. Great gas mileage (26-29mpg), safe, sporty looking without being too powerful, handles wonderfully on wet pavement or dry roads, and almost no maintenance. Go to corksport.com for upgrades and visit the many online communities to learn more about them. msprotege.com is a great resource.

They are great cars. They get around 30 mpg's depending on how u drive. They are cheap to maintaine but last long. The aftermarket parts shouldnt be too expensive..
