Hi there, I have a female chihuahua and after jumping down the steps the other day she broke her growth plate,

she is 6 months old, the vet has cast it, and said there could be a possibility that one growth plate might grow and the other not, in which case she will need a operation to chip some bone away, i would like as much information on growth plates as you could tell me and also like to know what are the chances she will need to have surgery? the vet was not very helpful so thats why i dont know much, but would like to know everything possible, i am in desperate need, please answer my questions, thanks,Bernadette

    Hi Bernadette.

If you type in a websearch for 'growth plate injuries in dogs' you will find some good information. You might also contact a Vet that is more of a specialist in this area, and ask your question. Calls are free.

Best of luck to you and your chi!

I can't answer your whole question but I can tell you that dogs don't normally do well with surgery so have that be a last resort, fortunately your dog is young and would most likely recover well.
