UC Riverside for engineering and in general?

They just sent me an acceptance for mech engineering even though I didn't apply so I want to know more the engineering program and also other pluses and minuses about the campus and surrounding area.

I was already planning to go to cal poly slo, but the acceptance made me want to take a serious look at UCR to see if I would want to go to UCR instead. For either university I plan to major in bio/biomedical engineering.

First, UCR offers the bio engineering program at the undergraduate level and also has a Graduate Program. It is one of very few campuses that will allow you to do research in bio engineering as an undergraduate so long as you’re an excellent student.

Second, UCR is on the verge of establishing the newest School of Medicine in over 40 years which means, you will have access to resources from a Medical School that specializes in Research. The UCR Medical School is being built with the help of some of the best minds in the medical field.

Third, UCR is about to become a an AAU member university. UCR is a great institution, with great professors such as Robert Rosenthal which just got name the University Professor by the University of California Regents in January. He is the 36th scholar to be named a University Professor in the UC system. Furthermore, the faculty is great and extremely accessible and friendly.

Forth, diversity!!! Unless you like everything to be homogenous go to other UC’s. UCR is ranked the third by US News and World Report in diversity. It is a great place to see different people from different parts of the world. UCR really embodies diversity not only ethically, but socially. You have students who’s family income is average, to student who park Ferrari in the student parking lot. Nonetheless, everyone is humble and friendly!!!!

Fifth, the alumni go on to do great things. For instance Richard R. Schrock won the 2005 NOBEL PRIZE in CHEMISTRY!!! Therefore, you know you are getting one of the best educations in the world which you can latter use to accomplish great things in the future!!!

All of these are not lies, but facts you can read on the web. The general UC system website have already put UC Riverside Medical School under their professional medical schools file. So have a look at everything, and if you end up coming to UCR, don’t think it’s going to be a walk in the park, its as competitive as all other Bio programs, but you have a strong faculty and student support system.

You will need to spend 2 years at Riverside and get fantastic grades. The fact that you are there indicates that your HS grades were not that great. You can still do it.
