Chiefs put Jared Allen on the trading block?

I just read that story, want to know what Chiefs fans think about trading away their best player for untested draft picks? I think its ludicrous for them to want to trade him, but I would be very happy if he made his way into a Rams uniform.

I'm not a Chiefs fan, but I was absolutely shocked by this move. I think Jared Allen is the most well-rounded defensive end in the game at the moment. I wish there were a way for the Eagles to pick him up, but clearly that's not going to happen.

I think somethings not being told here....

Obviously, Allen is incredibly talented, and he has shown improvement each year he's been in the league. He should just be entering his prime (he just turned 26). Why would you get rid of a franchise defensive end just entering his prime? He has had a couple of substance abuse problems (mostly alcohol), but I don't think he has serious issues..... so why?

Well he probably wasn't happy in the locker room, and the Chiefs made a judgement call. They realized Allen may be a distraction and end up hurting the team, and they are in rebuilding years anyway. They have a top 5 pick this year, and there should be a good defensive end or defensive tackle available at that spot or at least at their later selection (after they get a 1st rounder for trading Allen). I think there is someone slotted to go in the mid first round that they love and want to go after.... who is it? My assumption is it's a defensive end or offensive tackle, but I'm not sure who.

They Chiefs had a decent defense last year, and they have a few young guys who could have been an excellent core to build around. Allen was one of them. I guess they feel he's replacable or that they should sell him now while they can get a lot for him. Perhaps the Chiefs feel that he greatly overachieved last year, and so now is overrated. In any case, it is no secret that their offense needs some serious rebuilding. They have Bowe and T. Gonz, but they need to either get younger or simply better at just about every other position (yes, I'm a member of the "Larry Johnson doesn't have much left" club). I think they like Croyle... I don't know why, but I think they do. They may feel like they can get two franchise offensive tackles out of this draft - something that is actually a real possibility. If Long fell to them at the 5, and they got a guy like Albert or Clady with their other pick, their offense would drastically improve, and perhaps they could pick up another pass rusher as well as a corner in the second round (assuming they get a first and second for Allen). I think that would be a best-case scenario for them as they'd suddenly have a young offense and defense to build around.

Personally, if my team had a great pass-rushing need, I'd give up a first and second rounder for a guy like Allen. He's one of those "motor" players, and he plays with better technique than pretty much any other end in the NFL. He uses the 7 basic pass rushing moves consistently and succesfully, which is rare for DE. He's just as good at bull rushes as finese moves. Even if you drafted ends in both the first and second rounds, chances are you wouldn't end up with a guy like him, so it's going to be an excellent pick up for some team. As for the Chiefs.... I'm not entirely sure what they're doing, but perhaps they know something I don't know.

The Chiefs are top of the most stupid teams in the NFL, along with the Lions drafting receiver after receiver, after receiver.... and so on, and the Raiders who dont know what an offensive line is. The Chiefs are gonna be in some bad shape, while their only QB got traded, their only kick returner got traded, and their STAR running back was on the trading block a year ago. Go ahead, trade your only fast rising star on defense Herm. He screwed up my Jets and now its the Chiefs turn. Chiefs need to keep what they got, and draft some linemen and a QB. Jared Allen... info for you here..... YOUR PLAYING A GAME AND GETTING PAID MILLIONS. SHUT YOUR MOUTH

I like Allen but I could deal with us trading him. he is not a stud run stopper, they run to his side alot because he is all about getting sacks. I don't think we currently have anyone on the roster that could replace him. I want a first and second round pick this year for him if we trade him. I think he will be a chief for at least one more year though.

Ahh Ooo.... the Bengals need a DE.... Jared Allen is a rising star.... The Chiefs could use another WR to set their receiving corps.... If that story is true then if they don't want Chad, they are dumb.... If they traded Allen it would make another big need for them and with their QB situation, old secondary, and terrible O-Line.... that's the last thing they need...

nobody in their right mind will give up two first round picks for jared allen, and thats what its gonna take to get him..

if by some act of god the chiefs get two first rounders for allen, it will be a fantastic trade

They're shopping him around, so nothing is set in stone. You know how trade rumors are in the NFL. It's still too early to tell what's going to happen in Kansas City.

I personally doubt he will go anywhere unless they can get some ridiculously good trade. Herm Edwards does love his defense, after all.

jared allen already wanted out from the cheifs, but they franchise tagged him so that's y he had to stay for another year

he had big interest in going to the 49er's so i think niners will make an offer for him since mike nolan has a huge interest in defense

Drafting is the best way to rebuild, and they can get a lot of picks for him

tampa is welcoming him plus he will fit into tampa defense and pass rushing offensive line system.

    Go Bucs
