How do you get a credit report corrected. Have a bad mark on record that isn't mine and want to get it removed

Got a free credit report last year that has me listed with a bad report from JC Penny Company. I have never had an account with that company my entire life. I'm lost as to who I should contact with to have this removed from my record and I am the type of person who respects having an excellent credit rating. Please... I am only looking for answers from those who are acquainted with this subject and not a smart a** answer saying to forget about it. Thanks.

Call up the credit report agency and tell them of the dispute you have in one of their entries

    .. ..

Have on hand all the proof to back up your claim as to a false entry

    .. ..

Then ask them what forms or letter head you should send and to who or what department in their company

    .. ..

and all documents to be inclosed if any on hand

    .. ..

If you are claiming a false entry you will be given a special document to file

    .. ..

Most agency have this document available for down load on line

    .. ..

And When you send it send it registered mail so as to get a verification of receipt

    .. ..

This makes the person receiving the mail take second glance at to whom it is to go to in their building.

    .. ..

Good luck and if your claim is valid you have no problem in gettiing it corrected in short time

Contact JC Penney first. Ask them to send you a letter stating that you don't have an account with them. Once you have the letter, send a copy to all three credit reporting agency.

Write to the reporting agency and challenge this. They must provide you some kind of proof that this is your bill or they have to remove it. There is a 30 day limit on them acting on this. Good luck.
