Wireless laptop?

I have a dell desktop and bought a dell laptop with wifi. I purchased a linksys wireless-g router and connected it to the desktop. The laptop does not recognize there is an internet connection. Am i missing a component or is there another way I can get wireless internet on the laptop.

Update:

I do have a wifi switch which is on and when I scan for service I show none when two weeks ago it at least showed others in the area.

you can have different problems (not together though, well atleast from what i know :P).

    1. Search for all the SSID's in the vicinity. You may find multiple linksys as many people use them. Try to find the one that is yours.

    2. You may need to set up your router so it allows all computers on the network to connect to the internet using that connection.

    3. There may be a switch on the outside of you laptop that turns on and off your wireless card, i have that on my laptop, but not all laptops come with that.

Source(s): my head :P ...and resolutions from when i had problems before :P
